Frederic Leighton Girl with basket of fruit CC0677 Postcard by carulcards

Postcard inspired by a painting by Frederic Leighton (Eucharis or A girl with a basket of fruit, c.1863). The name Eucharis is from the Greek compound of 'eu' (good or beautiful) and 'charis' (grace or charm). She is a fictional character from a 17th century novel about Telemachus (François Fénelon, Les Aventures de Télémaque, 1699), the son of Odysseus. Telemachus, while searching for his father, has been shipwrecked on Calypso's island, and there fallen in love with the nymph Eucharis. A very beautiful and harmonious painting in warm yellow and orange color shades. Image file updated in December 2019.
